Cricket Canada has appointed Monty Desai as the head coach of its men’s national team, marking a key step in strengthening the side ahead of upcoming international competitions.
Desai brings over two decades of coaching experience across international cricket, having worked with teams such as Nepal, Afghanistan, the UAE, and the West Indies. He is particularly known for guiding Nepal to regain ODI status and qualify for major ICC tournaments, while also contributing to Afghanistan’s rise during crucial qualification phases. His work has often focused on building structured, disciplined environments in emerging cricket nations.

“I am honoured to take on this responsibility and thank Cricket Canada for their trust,” said Desai. “My previous experience in Canada has given me a clear understanding of the system’s potential and the passion that exists for the game.”

“Associate cricket is an important driver in the global growth of cricket today…Canada has a similar opportunity, and my focus will be on building a culture that translates this potential into consistent performances on the international stage,” he added.
Cricket Canada president Arvinder Khosa said the appointment reflects a long-term vision to restore the team’s competitiveness, while secretary Paramjit Saini expressed confidence in Desai’s ability to elevate Canadian cricket.
